Presentation Format

All chapters are on the agenda, and we’ll have a discussion of each one. Please feel free to speak for 10 minutes or less about your chapter; you’re welcome to use slides, but there’s no expectation. For co-authored chapters, feel free to divide the time however you like.

If you’re in person and using slides, please confer with an organizer in the morning or during the afternoon lunch break about loading them onto the presentation computers.

Each chapter presentation will be followed by 20-25 minutes of discussion/Q&A, though we may also cluster the presentations and Q&A, depending on the subject matter.

Reading the Chapters

You can read all of the available chapters on the website here. We have no standard expectation for how many and which you read, but we’d hope you’ll at least review the ones in your cluster/panel and others that particularly interest you.

Zoom Info

Below are the Zoom links to each of the sessions. There are also links on the program agenda below. Note that the sessions will be video recorded solely for the contributors’ private use on the UVA website.

Thursday, August 11:

Friday, August 12:

Please mute your microphone when you’re not speaking. But as you know, it can be discouraging for a contributor to present to an all-black screen! Please make an effort to leave your camera on as much as possible during the sessions.

Travel Info

  • We encourage everyone who’s able to attend in person. The U.S. borders are currently open to all travelers, provided you are vaccinated. For those for whom travel is impossible, we will have a remote option.
  • The Law School provides information on getting to Charlottesville here.
  • Charlottesville Albemarle Airport (CHO) is served by United, Delta, and American Airlines. There are currently connecting flights from Washington (Dulles), New York (LaGuardia), Chicago (O’Hare), Atlanta, Charlotte, and Philadelphia.
  • Another common option for getting to Charlottesville is to fly into Washington Dulles (IAD) and take a taxi/Uber/Lyft to Charlottesville (about 2 hours, $160).
  • We’re offering the following funding (updated):
    • ROUND-TRIP AIR TRAVEL & TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM AIRPORT (**one subsidy per chapter**):
      • From United States/Canada: up to $800
      • From Europe, Central America, or the Caribbean: up to $1,500
      • From Asia, Oceania, South America, or Africa (including the Middle East): up to $2,300
    • In addition, we will offer a second author on each chapter a subsidy equal to 50% of the above (so, $400, $750, and $1,150).
  • LODGING & MEALS (ALL in-person participants):
    • 3 nights lodging at the Omni Charlottesville (August 10, 11, 12; more nights can be reserved if paid by participant) — We already have a block of rooms, so DO NOT reserve a room yourself.
    • Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner on August 11 and 12
  • Please feel free to go ahead and book your flights now. We will issue reimbursements in the amounts below shortly after the workshop in August.
  • We are also working with our travel office to allow you to book through them; we’ll send more info about that very shortly.
